Mmmbeth Castle Set
(Fall 2019)

This set was designed for the show Mmmbeth by Allison Williams, a show I directed for a one acts competition. The show was a comedy that satirised Shakespeare's Macbeth and other elements of theater canon. I wanted the set to convey a traditional (almost cliche) Shakespearean setting, and to provide more stage entrances in order to diversify the blocking. The set also needed to be mobile, since it was stored off stage during other one act performances and had to be moved onstage in 2-3 minutes.

Working with sheets of 4x8' EPS styrofoam, I started by drawing the stone block pattern and carving the molding out with an xacto knife.

To give each stone more texture, I went over each stone with a wire brush to break up some pieces of styrofoam.

I added another piece of styrofoam to the steps, and painted them to match the stone. After painting the door brown and attaching a doorknob, the set was finished!
